Privacy Policy

How information is handled when you read this website or contact the Institution. Updated October 13, 2026 to describe aggregate visitor-location analytics.

Effective date: October 13, 2026

Scope and contact

This notice covers The Rimer Institution’s public website and correspondence sent to its published contact address. For privacy questions or requests, email info@therimerinstitution.org with “Privacy request” in the subject line. It does not govern independent websites you visit through external links.

Information you provide

The public site has no built-in contact form, visitor account registration, checkout, or newsletter subscription. Contact links open your email application. If you send a message, we receive the email address, name and other details you provide, the message, and any attachments. We use this information to review and respond to your inquiry, manage related correspondence, and address corrections or rights requests.

Do not send sensitive personal information or confidential records unless a suitable process has been agreed with us.

Information involved in delivering the website

Website delivery and security services may process technical information such as your IP address, requested page address, browser or device information, request time, and diagnostic or security records. This processing supports delivery, reliability, and protection against abuse. The website is hosted through Sites; hosting infrastructure can process requests separately from the page’s own interactive features.

The five-dimension explorer works in your browser. Your selected area and dimension appear in the page URL; they are not submitted through a research questionnaire. A URL you copy or share includes those selections, and a requested URL may also appear in hosting records.

Analytics, advertising, and browser storage

Starting October 13, 2026, the Institution uses first-party, server-side analytics to understand where readership comes from. For eligible public page requests, the hosting platform may supply an approximate country, state or region, and city based on the network connection. We store daily totals grouped by page and these approximate locations. These counts represent page views, not unique people, and cannot identify an individual visitor.

This analytics feature does not store raw IP addresses, names, email addresses, persistent visitor identifiers, query strings, or precise coordinates. It does not request GPS permission, set analytics cookies, use local storage, or create individual browsing profiles. It does not use a third-party analytics script or advertising pixel. Locations may be inaccurate or unavailable, particularly with VPNs, mobile networks, or proxies.

Aggregate statistics and exports are accessible only through the owner’s authenticated dashboard. Reports cover a rolling 90-day window; older aggregate rows are deleted when analytics next runs. The owner may retain exported aggregate reports separately. Requests with Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control enabled are excluded from this analytics collection, as are recognized automated user agents and the signed-in owner’s requests. Automated-traffic filtering is imperfect.

We do not use the website to sell personal information or share it for cross-context behavioral advertising. Hosting and security providers may process technical request information separately under their own arrangements. Fonts and images are served locally.

Who may process information

Hosting, security, and email service providers may process the information needed to deliver the website or handle correspondence. We may disclose information where required by law, to respond to a lawful request, or where necessary to protect rights and address misuse. We will not publish your private correspondence as a testimonial or research contribution without permission or another lawful basis.

Providers may process information in countries other than your own. Their locations, technical records, and retention practices depend on the services involved. Following a link to SSRN or another external website subjects your visit there to that service’s own privacy notice.

Retention and security

We retain correspondence for as long as reasonably needed to respond, manage the related matter, maintain necessary records, or meet legal obligations. The relevant factors include the inquiry’s purpose, whether follow-up is ongoing, and whether a legal obligation or dispute requires preservation. Technical records maintained by providers are subject to their own retention arrangements.

No website or email system can guarantee absolute security. Please minimize the personal information you send. Contact us if you believe information has been sent in error.

Your choices and requests

You can browse without sending correspondence. You may ask us to describe, provide access to, correct, or delete personal information held in our correspondence records. Depending on your location and applicable law, you may have additional rights to object to processing, restrict it, obtain a portable copy, withdraw consent where processing relies on consent, or complain to a privacy regulator.

Email your request to the address above. We may ask for information proportionate to verifying your identity and locating the records; do not send identity documents unless requested through an appropriate process. We will respond within any applicable legal deadline and explain any lawful restriction on fulfilling the request. Exercising an applicable privacy right will not result in discriminatory treatment.

California residents can learn about rights and applicability from the California Attorney General’s privacy information. The rights that apply depend on the relevant law and circumstances.

Children

The website is intended for a general research audience and does not invite children to submit personal information. If you believe a child has sent us personal information, contact us so we can review the matter and take appropriate action.

Changes to this notice

We will post changes on this page and update its effective date. Material changes will also be identified in a notice on this website; where required, we will provide direct notice or obtain consent before applying a new use of information.
